PROD.QUAN! Honest Voter: consistent, fair votes across the arena Producer 15 hours ago · 17 views
Hey RocBattle! I joined because I liked the idea of producers competing, getting feedback, and having opportunities to grow based on their talent. However, after learning more about the voting and membership systems, I have a few concerns about fairness.

My biggest concern is that staff votes make up 60% of battle results, while the community only gets 40%. I understand wanting to prevent popularity contests or unfair voting, but giving such a large portion of the power to a small group of people leaves room for subjectivity and makes community voting feel less meaningful.

I'm also concerned about how much paid memberships affect opportunities. Free members get five battles a month, while paid members get more chances to compete, gain exposure, and access promotional and industry opportunities. I understand the platform needs to make money, but talent shouldn't feel like it's taking a backseat to someone's ability to pay.

I think a little more transparency would go a long way. Clear judging criteria, explanations behind scores, and more opportunities for free members to get noticed based on merit would make the platform feel much fairer.

I'm not against paid memberships or staff involvement. I just think there should be a better balance between monetization and giving everyone a genuine chance to succeed.

I'd genuinely like to hear the reasoning behind these systems and whether the team is open to making improvements.

@prod.quan_ First, let me thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. I appreciate your perspective, and I welcome conversations like this because they give us an opportunity to explain who we are, what we've accomplished, and where we're going.

Let me be very clear about something. RocBattle.com is a business, and we are 100% a pay-to-play platform. We don't shy away from that, and I want to explain why.

Since 2006, RocBattle.com has built a track record that we're extremely proud of. We've paid out over $2 million to producers, helped develop talent that went on to become Grammy Award-winning producers, and provided exposure to countless individuals who eventually secured industry placements that changed their lives.

If you've spent any time on our live broadcasts, you've probably heard producers share their personal stories about how RocBattle.com helped them pay their rent, support their families, and create opportunities they otherwise might not have had.

But there's something else that money can't always measure. Many producers have told us that competing on RocBattle.com made them better at their craft. The level of competition pushed them to improve their production skills, think differently, and challenge themselves creatively. That's something we've always valued about this community.

And just in case you're not familiar with our history or some of the things we've accomplished over the years, I encourage you to take a few minutes to read our About page. It gives you a better understanding of how RocBattle.com started, what we've done, and why we're so passionate about what we're building today.

    Our history: https://rocbattle.com/about

Now, let me offer another perspective.

In my personal and professional opinion, if someone told me that 50 Cent never charged for a CD, Def Jam never made a dollar from the artists it helped develop, Dr. Dre gave away Beats headphones for free, or Jay-Z built Tidal without charging subscribers, then perhaps I could understand the argument that RocBattle.com shouldn't charge for the services and opportunities we provide.

But that's simply not how businesses operate, especially businesses that invest their resources into creating opportunities for others.

Providing value and charging for that value are not mutually exclusive.

We have a history of producing results, and we're investing in building something even greater today.

Our free membership allows producers to enter the community, participate in a limited number of battles, sell beats, and experience some of what RocBattle.com offers. But when you want additional exposure, more opportunities, greater promotional reach, and access to more tools, there is a cost associated with providing those services.

Think about it. If you decided to launch your own website tomorrow to showcase and sell your beats, you'd have to pay for hosting, storage, bandwidth, marketing, and other expenses. The difference is that we're not simply providing a place to upload beats. We're building a community and investing in bringing the audience to you.

We're leveraging our history, our relationships, our experience, and the involvement of Rockwilder and other industry professionals to create visibility and opportunities for producers.

    And that takes resources.

Our $9.99 monthly membership costs less than a number one meal at McDonald's. Our $19.99 membership, which provides additional exposure and tools, costs about what someone might spend on a meal at their favorite restaurant.

We're talking about a relatively small monthly investment in your music career, particularly when you consider the opportunities and resources we're working to provide.

Now, regarding the voting system, I want to clarify something because I believe there may be a misunderstanding about how our voting structure works.

The staff does NOT control 60% of the voting in regular battles. In fact, it's quite the opposite.

In our regular battles, the community carries 70% of the voting weight, while staff carries 30% when staff voting is involved. That means the community has the greater influence over the outcome of those battles.

It's only when producers advance into cash battles, where actual money is on the line and the stakes are considerably higher, that the voting structure changes to 60% staff and 40% community.

    There's a reason for that.

As producers progress through the ranks and begin competing for more significant prizes and opportunities, we believe it's important to have an additional level of professional oversight. The goal is to protect the integrity of those competitions and ensure that the outcome isn't determined simply by who has the most friends, followers, or people willing to vote for them.

The community still plays an important role, but at that level, we believe there needs to be a stronger balance of experienced judgment and community participation.

And let's be clear: Paying for additional opportunities does not mean paying to be declared the better producer. Those are two very different things.

We want producers to be judged on the quality of their work, not just their popularity. And while no judging system is completely free of subjectivity, our goal is to create a competitive environment where talent and quality matter. We're certainly open to improving transparency and the overall experience as we continue to grow.

At the end of the day, nobody is required to purchase a membership. Everyone can decide whether the benefits we provide are worth the investment. We respect that decision either way.

What I won't apologize for is building a business that has helped producers earn money, develop their skills, gain exposure, and advance their careers. That's something we're proud of, and it's something we intend to continue doing on an even greater level.

We've already demonstrated what this platform can accomplish, and we're just getting started with this new chapter.

Again, I sincerely appreciate you raising these questions. I want people to feel comfortable expressing their opinions here, even when they disagree with how we operate. Transparency is important to us, and so is treating everyone with respect.

RocBattle.com is a business. But more importantly, it's a business built around helping producers grow, compete, gain visibility, and create opportunities. And our track record speaks to that commitment.

Thank you again for being part of the conversation.πŸ‘
